Jackson-Cartwright was awarded First Team All-California Interscholastic Federation honors in 2009, and 2010. He was selected by ESPN to the All-California Team in 2009 and 2010. Miles Jackson-Cartwright began his amateur career as an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), sanctioned basketball team, the San Fernando Valley Guardian Angels. He was coached by David Wooley. HoopMasters was a nationally recognized AAU basketball program, located in Santa Monica, California, and led by John Fischer. He continued his development of fundamental basketball skills in 1999. Jackson-Cartwright enlisted in California Supreme, a Nike-sponsored basketball squad coached by Gary Franklin Sr., and Mike Law in 2009.
After being heavily recruited by the school’s coaching staff, Jackson- Cartwright enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn), of the Ivy League. He was the top-ranked college basketball player at the time, according to ESPN’s basketball writers. Miles was a four year starter and served three seasons as team captain. Jackson-Cartwright finished his Penn career second in minutes played (3959), ninth in assists (358), ninth and ninth in free throw percentage (81.3), tenth and tenth respectively in steals (131), 3-point field goal attempts (449), and thirteenth in points scored (1.401). In 2007-08, he was named the Ivy League’s Rookie of Week four times. Jackson-Cartwright was a Second Team All-Ivy League honoree. He also won the Philadelphia Big 5 Cy Kaselman award for the Best Free Throw Percentage 2012-13.
He is the younger brother of Alternative Rock singer/songwriter J Davey. Their younger brother, Parker, played point guard at the University of Arizona from 2014-2018. Parker was featured in the documentary At All Costs and Miles was also shown.
