Hermanovski, who wanted to move beyond costume design and into fashion design as her main focus, was approached by Project Runway’s casting team in 2010. She had previously been costuming and brought along a piece she had made during her time at RISD almost 20 years ago to her casting session. Other pieces were also made that week in preparation for her presentation before she presented before the judges Zoe Glassner, Nick Verreos, Tim Gunn, and Nick Verreos from Marie Claire magazine. Hermanovski was chosen as one of sixteen finalists for that season. She placed third after presenting Shadows, a highly-received collection from Fall 2010, at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Gunn replied to Hermanovski’s collection, saying “Contemporary American sportswear requires Mila.”

In March 2012, Hermanovski debuted her Fall 2012 collection at her second Los Angeles Fashion Week showing, and opened an online shop for her designs in October of the same year. Since then, Hermanovski has released collections for Fall 2013 (embrace), Spring 2014 (Aerial), Fall 2014 (Excavate), and Fall

2015. Her line of clothing was bought by several national and international boutiques and stores. However, her Fall 2015 collection was the last to be produced, and Hermanovski has since returned to working as a costume designer in television and film.

Hermanovski created a Holiday 2010 collection to accompany Shadows. Then, he officially launched a Spring 2011 collection called Rutilated at Los Angeles Fashion Week.

Hermanovski was the daughter of Delmar and Carol Hermanovski. Hermanovski is of Macedonian and Latvian descent. She attended Greenhill School and was awarded the National Scholastic Achievement Award for Art. Hermanovski, then eighteen years old, moved to Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island in order to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in apparel design. She graduated in 1991. Hermanovski also studied abroad in London at Ravensbourne during her studies at RISD.

After working on several New York-based projects, Hermanovski made the move to Los Angeles in 1998 to become a costume designer. Since then, she has worked on many television and film productions such as Austin Powers in Goldmember and 13 Going on 30 Alias, Nip/Tuck and Freedom Writers.

Hermanovski was asked to return to compete in Project Runway: All-Stars by producers in 2011, in which she finished sixth, and returned after her elimination to assist Mondo Guerra in the season’s finale. Guerra went on to win the competition.
