Mikhail Ilyukhin is one of the most popular and richest Mixed Martial Artist who was born on November 21, 1966 in Tula, Tula Oblast, Russia. Mikhail Ilyukhin, a retired Russian mixed martial artist who also competed in light heavyweight. He was born November 21, 1966. He participated in the Fighting Network Rings and Pride Fighting Championships. He was also a prominent member Russia Top Team where he trained alongside Fedor Emelianenko and Volk Han. Ilyukhin was defeated by Quinton Jackson at Pride 26. On November 26, 2005, he defeated Jordanas Poskaitis at K-1 – Hero’s Lithuania. He has apparently retired following the death of Russia Top Team Ilyukhin.

Mikhail faced Randy Couture, Ultimate Fighting Championship Heavyweight Champion in 1999. As a former wrestler, the American managed to stop Ilyukhin from insisting on takedowns and push him towards the ring ropes. He almost fell through them at one point. After brawling in the clinch for the majority of the match Illyukhin secured his arm against the turnbuckle and dropped to do a Kimura lock. However, the referee intervened and repositioned them in the middle of the ring. The Russian clearly advanced the hold and Couture was forced out by the referee to tap out. Couture won the fight immediately, but Couture did not contest it.

Ilyukhin was chosen to compete in Rings’ 1999 MMA tournament King of Kings 1999. He beat Justin McCully, Tito Ortiz’s teammate, and Brad Kohler, the HOOKnSHOOT winner. Then he faced Renato Sobral, a luta livre fighter, at the block’s finals. Sobral was given a yellow card after intentionally throwing Mikhail on the top rope. The Russian also attempted takedowns and boxing to keep his cool. After the judges declared the bout a draw, overtime was called. Mikhail attempted a standing Kimura lock, but Sobral cleverly reversed it to an armsbar and won the fight. Ilyukhin was also a participant in the 2000 edition of the tournament, where he faced Tsuyoshi Kuchsaka in round one. The bout seemed to be back-and-forth, but Kohsaka scored a striking combination that knocked Mikhail out in the second round, ending his participation in the tournament.

After a long and successful career in sambo wrestling, Ilyukhin made his debut in professional wrestling promotion Rings in 1994. He submitted Mitsuya Nagai to win his first match. Along with Volk Han and Andrei Kopylov, he would be a member of the Rings Russia team. He had his first contact with MMA in a year, representing Rings Russia at the Absolute Fighting Eurasian Championship of the International Absolute Fighting Council. He submitted six opponents in a row by Achilles hold, and won the tournament in about one minute.

In Rings, Ilyukhin played Adilson Lima in a vale tudo matches in 1996. Adilson Lima was a Carlos Gracie Jr. trainee who had been defeated twice by Vovchanchyn during the first IAFC tournament. Lima took down Illukhin, and mounted him. However, the Russian managed to escape after a failed rear naked choke attempt. Illyukhin was given a yellow card for illegally grasping the ropes to prevent him from being taken down again. However, he was able to defeat the Brazilian and nearly finished him off with an ankle hold just before the end. Although the match was declared draw, Lima and Renzo Gracie protested and demanded another round. Akira Maeda, Rings chairman, and Yuji Shimada, referee, had to agree. After a heated exchange, Lima attacked Illyukhin with a handshake, grabbed the ropes, and Mikhail attempted to throw an illegal headbutt. This was followed by another controversial moment, when Shimada ended the match to a submission victory for Lima, before Illyukhin surrendered.

Ilyukhin took part in a special match against Quinton Jackson in Pride Fighting Championships in 2003. The Russian was successful in taking and holding down Jackson, but his opponent powered out and started hitting back, knocking Mikhail down and making him earn a yellow card for crawling under the ropes. Jackson dominated the standing exchanges afterwards, and after avoiding a triangle choke, he gained side control over Mikhail and threw knees to the liver, making him tap out.
