In February 2012, Nicholls fought Haste in television matches for NWA Championship Wrestling. In March 2012, Nicholls began wrestling for Ohio Valley Wrestling. During their time there, they lost a title match in the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship to Jessie Godderz and Rudy Switchblade.
On 20 December 2014, Nicholls and Haste made their debut for New Japan Pro- Wrestling, when they, along with Naomichi Marufuji, were revealed as Toru Yano’s tag team partners at Wrestle Kingdom 9 in Tokyo Dome on 4 January 2015. At the event, the four defeated Suzuki-gun (Davey Boy Smith Jr., Lance Archer, Shelton X Benjamin and Takashi Iizuka) in an eight-man tag team match.
In June 2015, Nicholls and Haste took part in a WWE tryout camp. In February 2016, it was reported that Nicholls and Haste were scheduled to join WWE’s NXT brand following their Noah farewell tour.
Nicholls was able to make his debut in Pro Wrestling Noah on 23 February 2011. He had a match against Shane Haste. Both men began working full-time for the Japanese promotion a month after their try-out match. Nicholls was a singles competitor in both the 2012 Global League tournaments and 2013. After defeating Takashi Iizuka and Toru Yano, Haste and Nicholls won the GHC Tag Team Championship on 7 July 2013. Kenta was defeated by Nicholls on 16 September. Tokyo Sports magazine named Nicholls & Haste tag team of 2013 at the end of 2013. They were the first foreign teams to win this award since Stan Hansen & Vader 1998. Nicholls, Haste lost to Maybach Taniguchi & Takeshi Morishima the GHC Tag Team Championship on 25 January 2014. They reclaimed the title from Dangan Yankies Takashi Sugiura and Masato Tanaka on 10 January 2015. K.E.S. took the title. (Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Lance Archer) on 11 Feb. Noah announced on 28 December 2015 that Nicholls, Haste and their contracts would expire at the end the year. Noah announced on 11 February 2016 that Nicholls, Haste and Haste would be returning to the promotion to participate in a five-show-long farewell tour entitled “Departure to the World”. Their final Noah match was held on March 10, when they defeated Naomichi Marufuji, and Mitsuhiro Kanamiya.

Nicholls trained at the New Japan Pro-Wrestling L.A. Dojo in Los Angeles. In 2006, he wrestled in Tokyo for NJPW. In 2006, Nicholls also unsuccessfully attempted to challenge for the NWA British Commonwealth Heavyweight Championship.
After NWA’s split with TNA in June 2007, Nicholls participated in the Reclaiming the Glory tournament in order to crown a new NWA Heavyweight Champion. However, Fergal Devitt defeated him in the tournament. In a 30-minute Iron Man match, Nicholls defeated Karl Anderson and Ryan Taylor to win the Empire Wrestling Federation American Championship in September 2007. Nicholls fought for Ring of Honor in 2009.
After starting out in Noah, Nicholls returned to the United States and Ring of Honor in February 2012. He and Haste won a tournament at ROH Rise & Prove, defeating two other teams to qualify for a match against the Briscoe Brothers. At the ROH Showdown in the Sun iPPV in March 2012, the Briscoe Brothers defeated Nicholls and Haste in a Proving Ground match.
