Michael “Mike” Rosario, a Puerto Rican professional basketball athlete for Piratas de Quebradillas (BSN), was born November 2, 1990. He was a college basketball player for Rutgers University and Florida. He represented Puerto Rico at the 2012 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, and the FIBA Under-19 World Championship. He never won a medal in either of these competitions.

After his time with St. Anthony, he participated in the 2008 McDonald’s All- American Boys Game along with many other future stars like Tyreke Evans and Kemba Walker. He was the sixth high school student to participate in this prestigious game. Rosario finished the game with 18 points and five steals. He played 19 minutes.

Rosario was forced to redshirt his third season with Florida because of NCAA transfer rules. He said, “Oh, man, I wanted to grab a uniform so bad sometimes.” However, since the preseason, Rosario endured a disc problem in his lower back that caused numbness in the area, but did not require surgery according to Billy Donovan. As Florida’s 2010-11 season came to a close, Rosario, with Erving Walker, became one of just two players on the roster to enter their fourth year.

Rosario attended St. Anthony High School and was coached by the legendary Bob Hurley. He spent four years with the Friars and helped maintain their position as a nationally recognized basketball powerhouse. In his senior season, St. Anthony came inches from a rare state tournament loss, a matter that was featured in the 2010 documentary, The Street Stops Here. He averaged nearly 19.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in this final year, and propelled the team to a 32–0 record along with the country’s No. 1 ranking according to the USA Today Super 25 and ESPN High Elite 25 polls. The Friars eventually won the state championship upon Hurley’s comments on the year, “If you don’t win a state championship, you will never be remembered.”

Rosario made his debut for Rutgers in November 2008, scoring 17 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals against Marist. Rosario was the first rookie Scarlet Knight to score more than 17 points in the team’s season opener since Mike Jones (1993). Rosario scored a season-high 27 against the Robert Morris Colonials on November 21st, 2008 after only 35 minutes of play time. Rosario finished the game with only 1 rebound and zero assists, despite his incredible scoring performance. On November 26, 2008, he had his 7th rebound game against Lehigh. This would be his season-high. Rosario would do the same against Bryant December 20, 2008. On December 3, 2008, he was the starting small forward against Rider. He scored 25 points in total. Rosario scored zero points against the South Florida Bulls on March 7, 2009. He shot 0-of-5 from the field. Rosario played in his only postseason game against Notre Dame in the Big East Tournament’s first round. Rosario was also the top scorer among all Big East players due to his college experience. Rosario was also 5th among NCAA Division I freshman basketball players. Rosario’s strong season earned him a spot on the conference’s All Rookie Team for 2008-2009, along with Yancy gates, Kemba Walker and Greg Monroe. Rutgers ended the year with an 11-21 record and 2-16 in conference play. Rosario won the Big East Rookie of Year award from Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association and was also named CollegeInsider.com Freshmen all-American.
