Michael Felty, formerly Miguel Juan Miranda, was born November 15, 1963 in Jacksonville (Florida), U.S.A. He is an American professional Bicycle Motocross (BMX), racer whose best years were 1981-1986. His stepfather was his previous surname, which he is most well-known for. Two stories are available about how Hollywood got its nickname. Either Steve Giberson, editor of Bicycle Motocross Action (BMXA), gave him the nickname because he liked to “show off”. Or he just put his name on it by sticking a sticker under his helmet that read “My name’s Hollywood”. This was noticed at 1981 NBA Roncho Nationals. In this 1982 quote, he tells it as follows:

First Senior Pro race result: He won the “A” Pro category at the National Bicycle League/International BMX Federation Magic Mountain Grand Prix of the United States, October 31, 1982 in Valencia (California). He was awarded US$2,000. The equivalent of US$4,263.21 in 2007 (Cost of Living Calculator). He went from “B”, pro, to “A”, and could have won nine more races in “B”, before NBL rules required him to move to the “A” Division. He was performing well in the “B” pro class, which seemed unfair to his fellow “B” level competitors. The NBL management agreed with him. Miranda won 11 pro titles with the NBL, and he also had four junior pro titles with the ABA.

At 13 years of age, he started racing in September or October 1977. He was in the Six Grade Class. His first race was at the Corona Raceway in Corona. It was a district school race. They met once a month. All schools in his district, including Riverside Junior High School, would be represented. Racers raced at their grade level, not in BMX age classes. There weren’t proficiency classes such as “Novice” or “Expert”. Mike Miranda began BMX because of this and the fact that his parents didn’t want him to buy a motorcycle.
