- He was awarded a spot on Opening Day’s roster. He was optioned by Memphis and recalled to St. Louis six times before being recalled for the seventh and final time on June 8. Mayers ended his 2018 campaign with a 2-1 record, and a 4.70 ERA in 50 relief appearances.
Mayers began the 2019 season with St. Louis, but was placed on the injured list on April 17. He was activated on July 23. On August 4, Mayers was designated for assignment, and on August 6, he was outrighted to Memphis. On September 1, he was added to the expanded roster for September callups. Over 19 relief innings pitched with St. Louis, Mayers went 0–1 with a 6.63 ERA, striking out 16 batters.
Mayers was selected by the Cardinals from Memphis on July 23rd 2016, and he announced that he would make a Major League Baseball (MLB), debut against the Los Angeles Dodgers the next day on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. Before his promotion, Mayers had a record of 3-3 and 2.94 ERA in nine appearances for Memphis. Each of the four first-inning batters Mayers faced reached base. Adrian Gonzalez, the fourth baseman, scored the grand slam. Mayers gave up nine earned runs, eight hits and two walks to make it 10 out of 14 batters who reached base. He also recorded four outs, a game ERA of 60.75. According to the Elias Sports Bureau he was the first major leaguer who surrendered at least nine runs and advanced through less than two innings in his debut. Scott Kazmir, the opposing pitcher, said, “I felt sorry for him. It’s your debut. It’s hot. He was not able to draw the Cardinals. He was optioned by the Cardinals to Memphis on September 6, his first major league appearance. He earned his first win in relief, on September 6, in Pittsburgh. He pitched a perfect eighth inning.

Mayers was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the third round. After signing with the GCL Cardinals, Mayers made his professional debut before being promoted to Peoria Chiefs where he completed the season. He posted a 1-3 record with a 2.97 ERA in 36 innings between the two teams. In 2014, Mayers was with the Palm Beach Cardinals and Springfield Cardinals. He also pitched for the Memphis Redbirds. His combined record of 8-12, 3.39 ERA and 1.37 WHIP, in 26 games, between the two teams, was 8.12 and 12. Mayers went 2-4 in 2015 with an ERA 5.87 for Springfield and the GCL Cardinals. He was 10-1 as a Grove City junior with a 1.57 ERA. As a senior, he was 4-2 with a 3.80 ERA. He was not selected out of high school in 2010 MLB Draft. Instead, he enrolled at University of Mississippi and played college baseball with the Ole Miss Rebels. He played college summer baseball for the Bourne Braves, Cape Cod Baseball League. He was named the Southeastern Conference Co- Pitchers of the Week on May 13, 2013. He posted a 2.83 earned-run average (ERA), over 92 innings pitched (IP), with 73 strikeouts and 37 bases on balls. He had a college record of 12-9 wins-loss with a 3.42 ERA, 171 strikeouts and 215 innings pitched. He decided to skip his last year of eligibility to be eligible for the Major League Baseball draft.
