Michael Arthur Kinkade, born May 6, 1973, is an American college baseball coach. He was a former Major League Baseball left fielder and right fielder, as well as a designated hitter and designated hitter. He is the assistant coach at California State University in Bakersfield.
The Brewers traded Kinkade, a left-handed pitcher, to the New York Mets on July 31, 1998. Pulsipher was promoted by the Mets to be part of “Generation K”, which consisted of three starting pitchers who would carry the team’s rotation over the next decade. Wilson and Isringhausen suffered arm injuries. Pulsipher had control issues and was not able to enjoy any significant success with the Mets.
Kinkade experienced his first real major league success in 2001, batting .275 with a .345 OBP in 160 at bats with the Orioles. He signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent that off-season, then enjoyed tremendous success as a bench player, batting .380 with seven extra-base hits in only 50 at bats. Kinkade was less successful in a return engagement with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2003, though he did finish fifth in the National League with 16 hit-by-pitches. He played in Japan with the Hanshin Tigers in 2004, then spent 2005 in the Cleveland Indians organization with the Buffalo Bisons, 2006 in the Florida Marlins organization with the Albuquerque Isotopes.He spent 2007 in the Chicago Cubs organization with the Iowa Cubs and as a third baseman for the Trenton Thunder, the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate. On February 23, 2008, he signed a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners.
Kinkade was not happy with the Mets’ AAA affiliate in Norfolk after the trade. On September 8, 1998, Kinkade made his major league debut in a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies (16-4), but struggled to make a name for himself in the bigs. Kinkade played in 31 games for the Mets in 1998, 1999, and was then sent to the class AAA Binghamton Mets for 2000, the same level that he had been able to play at three years ago.

Kinkade graduated from Tigard High School, Tigard, Oregon. He was a college star at Washington State University where he played college baseball from 1992-1995. In 1994, he was named third-team All-American and was the school’s top-ranked player in career hits, with 304. This record he still holds. He played collegiate baseball in summer 1994 with the Falmouth Commodores, Cape Cod Baseball League. Kinkade was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 515th overall selection in the 19th round in 1994’s June draft. He decided to return to school to complete his senior year rather than go pro. He was drafted by the Brewers again in the ninth round, with the 236th overall selection.
Kinkade was a success immediately in the minor leagues. He split his time between playing in the outfield and catching. In 1995, Kinkade was a Pioneer League All-Star. He had a.353 average and 26 stolen bases. He also had more walks than strikeouts. Kinkade was named an All-Star in the Midwest League his next season. In 1997, he was even more productive and was named the Most Valuable player of the class-AA Texas League. He batted.385 and had a.455 on base percentage, a.588 slugging percent, and 17 stolen bases. However, he also made 60 errors in the field.
Kinkade appeared in three games with the Orioles at the end of the year, then left for Sydney to represent the United States of America at the 2000 Summer Olympics. America’s baseball team won the gold medal, and Kinkade played a key role, getting on base in the seventh inning of a semifinal game against South Korea and scoring America’s second run in a come-from-behind 3-2 win.
