Borzello is the father of Joe Torre (a former Major League manager), who was close to Borzello’s father. Keri Borzello was his sister and was a 1994 NCAA Women’s College World Series participant. She was a catcher for the Missouri Tigers. After a devastating rotator-cuff injury, she transferred to UCLA.
When Torre left the Yankees for the Dodgers in 2007, he brought Borzello with him as catching instructor. In 2011, he left the Dodgers to join the Cubs as a coach, working with the catchers and scouting. He earned another World Series ring with the Cubs in the 2016 World Series.
Mike Borzello signed in June 1991 with the St. Louis Cardinals. After five years of being a minor-league catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, Borzello was promoted to a bullpen catcher and pitcher for the New York Yankees. He was born in Tarzana, and played baseball during his college years at California Lutheran University. He was a Los Angeles Dodgers catch instructor from 2007 to 2010.

Borzello, then 12 years old, was a batboy for Atlanta Braves. He found himself in the middle a series brawls between Torre and San Diego Padres. Borzello later stated that he was shocked when the fans began throwing stuff at him and jumping onto the field.
Borzello attended Taft High School, Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California and California Lutheran University. From 1991 to 1994, he was a minor league catcher in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system. He never reached class A.
