He was a third baseman and a first baseman for the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners as well as the Los Angeles Dodgers and Oakland Athletics.
He was the 13th player with the Mariners to achieve grand slams consecutively, and he did it on May 16-17 1993.
He hit for the cycle on May 18, 1998 as a member of the Oakland Athletics.
In 1999, Blowers played 73 games with the Hanshin Tigers of the Nippon Professional Baseball league.
Blowers was playing in Arlington Stadium against Texas on April 21, 1990. In the fifth inning, he hit his first MLB homerun off Charlie Hough. Four innings later, he hit his second homer off Craig McMurtry. He committed four errors at third base on May 3, while playing in Yankee Stadium. This led to 7 unearned runs in a 10-5 loss against the Cleveland Indians. He was 21st American League third-baseman to experience such an awful day. David Brain, a third baseman for the Boston Beaneaters, was the only one to make more errors in a game in 1906.

Blowers was born in Wurzburg in West Germany. He lived in Oklahoma, West Germany, and Oklahoma until the seventh grade when his U.S. Army stepfather, Fort Lewis, south Tacoma, Washington, was transferred. He graduated from Bethel High School, Spanaway in 1983 and played college baseball at Tacoma Community College in Seattle. Blowers was selected in 1984 Major League Baseball Draft by the Mariners, but he chose not to sign. His junior season at Washington was his only with the Huskies. He won the Pac-10 North Division triple crown and was then selected by the Montreal Expos for the tenth round in 1986 MLB Draft.
Blowers made his Major League Baseball debut on September 1, 1989 with the New York Yankees. He played his final game for the Seattle Mariners on October 3, 1999.
In 1995, Blowers hit .257 with 23 home runs and 96 RBI for the Mariners as they made their first postseason and advanced to the American League Championship Series. His 33 RBI in August remains the most by a Mariners player in a single month, a record he co-holds with Mariners Hall of Fame third baseman and designated hitter Edgar Martínez.
