Since 1980, my main focus as an artist has been on the nexus of Music and Painting, and how to pictorially represent sound and silence. This exploration includes many aspects, including attempts to create environments (or places) from the sensations, thoughts, and visions that Music generates. My work has been through many stages, from illustration of musical pieces to exploring aspects of the structure. These are, however, subjective.
Cerejido was born in Havana, Cuba in 1980. He studied drawing and painting at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes San Alejandro in 1980. He earned a master’s in Fine Arts from the Instituto Superior de Arte. He was a professor at the Instituto Superior de Diseno Industrial, among other art schools in Cuba, in 1985. He was also a specialist at Centro de “Diseno Ambiental”, an interior design center in Havana.
The final phase of production in my work is distinguished by a return to painting, almost forgotten in my eagerness in use it as a medium instead of a purpose, and the utilization of all I’ve learned through the years about shaping a pictorial – not musical – art work, which held all the spiritual power of music, as an autonomous entity, without moving it away from its musical sources by means of referent codes, which, I hope, made possible the identification of the theme by the viewer.
