Michelle Fischbach is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on November 3, 1965 in Woodbury, Minnesota, United States. Fischbach claimed she wanted to be lieutenant governor and keep her seat in the senate, but it was not legal for her to do so. Fischbach cited a memo from the senate’s nonpartisan counsel that cited an 1898 Minnesota Supreme Court ruling as precedent for her being allowed to serve in both of these offices. She stated that the duties of the lieutenant governor are mostly ceremonial and that she would not have any problem filling the roles of both office. She chose to accept the salary of the lieutenant governor and instead received the state senator’s pay. The state’s attorney general issued an advisory opinion disputing Fischbach’s legal right to hold both offices simultaneously. It cited a 1972 constitutional amendment as well as historical precedents such as Alec Olson’s resignation from his position as state senator after becoming lieutenant governor. The Minnesota Constitution states that no senator or representative may hold any other office, except the postmaster or notary public.

Fischbach is Roman Catholic. Scott was her husband when she worked on a campaign for the former U.S. Senator Rudy Boschwitz. While she was at St. Cloud State University. They moved to Paynesville, where they remain. Since 2001, Fischbach’s husband was the executive director of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life. They have two adult children and many grandchildren.

In 2011, following an election where Senate Republicans won a majority for the first time since party designation, Fischbach was elected by her colleagues to serve as the state’s first female President of the Senate, holding the post from January 2011 through January 2013. After the Republicans regained a majority following the 2016 election, Fischbach was again elected to be president of the Senate on January 3, 2017.

In May 2018, former Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty announced Fischbach as his lieutenant governor pick in his comeback bid for a third term. Pawlenty and Fischbach were defeated in the Republican primary by Jeff Johnson and Donna Bergstrom.

In 1996, Fischbach was the first person elected to the Minnesota Senate. After Joe Bertram’s resignation, Fischbach was elected in a special election. Bertram had recently pleaded guilty to shoplifting. Fischbach was elected in the 1996 general elections, but she was also reelected in 2000, 2002 and 2006, 2012, 2012, and 2016. From 2001 to 2002, Fischbach was an assistant minority leader and from 2007-2008. She also served as Deputy Minority Leader between 2009 and 2010. Fischbach was also the chair of Senate’s Higher Education Committee.
