Their mother Anna Maria Mazzoli, and their father Roberto, were both in the Italian lower levels. They met when they were at an event with their youth national teams in 1978.

He was loaned to Gira Ozzano, a Virtus satellite club in Italy, in order to gain some experience. He played 27 games, scoring 9,8 points per game for Gira.

After falling off the radar for a period, he joined the senior team in 2014, playing a bit part in FIBA EuroBasket 2015 qualification in which Italy qualified for FIBA EuroBasket 2015.

The 2014-15 season proved to be more complicated, Vitali missed the first part of the season with a knee injury and – as a starter – could not stop Caserta’s relegation, confirmed after a loss in the last game of the season.

Vitali rose through the youth ranks at Virtus Bologna’s home club. He was called up to the first team on occasions and made his division debut in February 2009. Vitali played a minute with one missed goal. He made that his only appearance in the senior team. Vitali would not be able to make it into the side with just two minutes. However, he was a key player as the Under-19 squad won the national championship.

Michele Vitali, a professional Italian basketball player who was born October 31, 1991, is a shooting guard for Dinamo Sassari in Italy.

He was a member of the Italian national basketball team’s under-age categories, playing first in the 2009 European Championship for the U18’s, then in the 2010 European Championship for the U20’s, and most recently winning the silver medal in the 2011 European Championship.

Following this positive experience he returned to Virtus but didn’t manage to break into the first squad, playing only three games the whole season. This prompted him to rescind his contract with Virtus and join cross town side Biancoblù Basket Bologna (in Italian) of the Legadue in October 2012. His time with the white and blue proved successful, he established himself as a starter for the team, playing 27 games with 9.8 points on average and even participated in the Legadue All Star Game where he was voted best player under 24.
