He was made Officer of the Italian Republic in 2000 by President Ciampi for his services to architecture and design. He was elected Professor at the University of Venice’s Design and Art Faculty in 2001. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Kingston University in 2006 for his contributions to “living quality”. He was elected Professor at the Politecnico di Milan’s Design Faculty in 2008 and Member of the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca, Rome.
His professional work has always run in tandem with a personal exploration of design, technology and craftsmanship. Since 2004 he has sculptured small wooden houses using a chain saw to create the essence of the architectural style.

He has worked on the design and restoration of buildings in Japan for NTT and Germany for Deutsche Bank. In Switzerland, he was responsible for Novartis and Enel. He was appointed in 1999 to renovate several ENEL (the Italian Electricity Company’s) power plants. He worked with Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Bundesbahn and ENEL.

De Lucchi designed lamps and furniture for well known European and Italian companies such as Alias Unifor, Hermes, Hermes, Olivetti and Alias. Olivetti’s Director of Design, he developed experiments for Compaq Computers and Philips as well as Siemens, Siemens, and Vitra. He developed many theories about the evolution of workplaces during this time.
