Michel Draguet, a Belgian artist historian and professor at the Universite libre de Bruxelles is the director and CEO of Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. He was born 23 January 1964. Draguet serves as a member on the board of the Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO), the federal government’s science policy office.
Michel Draguet receives his PhD in 1990 (Origins of Abstract Art (1911-1918)). This was with the Greatest distinction. Michel Draguet was a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research, (FNRS) from 1993 to 1995.
From 1995 until 2000, Michel Draguet became Research Associate and, from 2000 till 2001, Senior Research Associate at the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS). Since 1990, Michel Draguet is Lecturer of History of Modern Art at Université Libre de Bruxelles. He became professor in History of Modern Art (19th-20thCenturies) in 2004 and since 2005 Associate Professor. He is still in charge of the Research Center René Magritte (CEREM) and of the International Bernheim Chair.
In 1998, his book Chronology of the XX Century Art (Paris, Flammarion (Tout l ’art-Encyclopédies), 1997. Second Edition, 2003) won the Wernaers Prize from the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS).
Philippe Robert-Jones was his chief curator at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. He worked with him from the beginning of his studies until 1990.
