Strange began a second run to help children with cancer on May 8, 2014. Strange, also known as the “90 in 90”, ran 94 Marathons in just 94 days, from St. John’s Newfoundland up to his home in Niagara Falls. This was to honor 12 -year-old Matteo Mancini who died from cancer in May 2013.
In August 2016, Strange and three teammates set out on the “Box Climb”. The troop summited the Breithorn, a mountain peak adjacent to the Matterhorn in Switzerland.
In September 2018, to commemorate Childhood Cancer Awareness month, Strange set out on the Camino de Santiago, an 800km spiritual journey through Spain. Each of the 30 days was dedicated to a child who has fought or is fighting cancer.
Strange was elected to the Niagara Falls City Council in 2014. Strange applied for the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario nomination to contest Niagara Falls in the 2018 general elections. Strange was reelected to Niagara Falls City Council again in 2018. He ran unassisted in the riding Niagara Falls for the Canadian federal election 2019.

Mike Strange began boxing when he was 10 years old. He started to take the sport seriously after seeing Shawn O’Sullivan and Willie Dewitt win Silver medals for Canada. Strange had a dream to represent Canada at the Olympic Games. His dream was fulfilled three times when he participated in 3 consecutive Summer Olympic Games, 1992, 1996, and 2000. Strange participated in more than 350 amateur boxing matches. He also competed for Canada in over 30 other countries. Strange was also the flag bearer for Team Canada in the closing ceremonies of Malaysia. In 1996 and 1998, Mike was named “Canadian boxer-of-the-year”.
Mike Strange created the Box Run to raise funds for cancer awareness. On April 12, 2012, he began running from Thunder Bay in Ontario to Victoria, British Columbia. He ran an average of more than 40 km per day and completed his run in Victoria, BC on July 3, 2012. The Box Run raised more than $100,000 for Childhood Cancer Canada.
In 2014, the Box Run became an official registered charity. It is a completely volunteer-based organization focused on raising funds through athletic endeavours.
