He is a highly successful musician, having rearranged Makanaka Jesu with the UFI Choir. This song became a hit. Mahendere is also known for his album, “Getting Personal With God II” with hits like Mumoyo. He is often associated with the title “Minister” Michael Mahendere.
Minister Michael Mahendere began music when he was seven years old in 1990. His career began as part of Mahendere Brothers, which included his brothers Akim and Misheck. Mwari Mukuru, their first album, was released in 1994 and topped the charts in Southern Africa. Michael Mahendere was just eleven years old at the time. He believed there was more to his music development and, even though he had few resources, he started to learn to play the guitar. He began to learn the acoustic instrument that his father had purchased for him. In 1998, he learned to play the drums and the keyboard. Although he didn’t have drums, he learned to improvise and play them. Rumbidzo 23 and Mapisarema 23 were just a few of the projects that he worked on with his brothers.
In 2011, the church’s choir (UFI Choir) did a musical project in which Michael Mahendere led a song called Makanaka Jesu, which has over 1.8 million YouTube views. The song became a hit up-to date and topped radio and television charts in the country.
