Cusick, born February 21, 1969, is a New York State legislator. He represents the New York State Assembly’s district 63 on Staten Island, New York. He is a Democrat, and has been a member of the Assembly since 2003.

Cusick, as an Assemblyman has sponsored and written many bills. He wrote a 2003 law that established a moratorium for building in the Mid-Island Blue Belt area (Chapter 84, 2003). He wrote legislation that required neighboring landowners to be notified of any application to build in wetland areas. He helped to pass a 2006 budget that increased school aid by 500 million dollars over the previous year. The budget included $1.8 billion down payment to expand and renovate city schools. He sponsored legislation in 2005 that allowed New York City’s share of the footwear and clothing sales tax to be eliminated (Chapter 285 from 2005). He supported a budget in 2006 that eliminated the state tax. Cusick introduced legislation in 2008 that would make it illegal to protest or disturb a funeral or memorial service.

Cusick was the former Staten Island Assemblyman Eric Nicholas Vitaliano’s Chief of Staff, overseeing staff and managing the offices on Staten Island and Albany. Cusick researched and created state legislation, including that to close Fresh Kills Landfill. Cusick represented Vitaliano at local and state civic, professional and union associations on legislative and community matters.
