Michael Algar, also known as ‘Olga,’ began playing music at the age of 11. He saw Mud, Sweet and Slade on Top of the Pops, which is a UK-based pop TV program. He had started songwriting/composing by the age of 17. Before forming The Toy Dolls, he played in several local bands such as Straw Dogs or The Showbiz Kids. Over their 40-year history, The Toy Dolls have released many singles and albums. Olga is the author of all albums, which include titles like Absurd-Ditties and Fat Bob’s Feet as well as Idle Gossip, Anniversary Anthems, and Fat Bob’s Feet. The band’s debut album Dig That Groove Baby was followed by “Nellie the Elephant”, a UK top 10 hit. It reached number 4 on the UK Singles Chart. The album A Far Out Disc reached number 71 on the UK Albums Chart.

Olga was also featured on lead vocals with Brian Johnson (AC/DC), and John Miles on the Geordie Aid single, “Try Giving Everything”, in 1985. This song was for charity related to Ethiopia. Olga also appeared on the 2006 album Guitarists 4 the Kids.

Olga has produced most of The Toy Dolls albums and also recordings for other artists too, including the double A side single “Take A Walk/Round, Round, Round” by Gem Archer of Beady Eye and Oasis and the albums Toy Doll and Tori Ningen by Japanese punk band Lolita No.18. In 2010 he was executive engineer on the album Crash & Burn by North East UK punk band Crashed Out.
