Mfon Sunday, a Nigerian-American ex-professional basketball player, is now the Assistant Coach of the Nigeria women’s basketball team, the D’Tigress. Udoka was born in Portland, Oregon. She graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School (1994), before going to DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois, 1994-1998. She is the sister to former NBA player Imeudoka.
Udoka left Los Angeles and moved to Spain (2004), Athens Summer Olympics (2005), and Russia (2005). Udoka played in Mersin in Turkey during the second half 2006 season. She also spent a brief time with Tarbes Gespe Bigorre, France’s Ligue Feminine de Basketball 2007.
Udoka coached the Nigerian women’s basketball team to the 2004 Summer Olympics. She was second in rebounding and scoring at the Olympics. Nigeria came in 11th place out of 12 countries. They were the first African team ever to win a single game at the Olympics. Udoka was also the leader of Nigeria in 2006 FIBA World Championship for Women. Nigeria came in 16th place.

Udoka left DePaul University in 1998 and signed with the Detroit Shock, WNBA. She appeared in three games with Detroit. Udoka moved to Portugal in 1998-99 after the 1998 season. She left the U.S. Udoka returned to school in 2000 to finish her Communications degree. She also rehabbed her ACL injury that she sustained in the summer 1999. She resumed her basketball career in 2001 with the Birmingham Power of National Women’s Basketball League. Udoka left the U.S. after the 2001 NWBL season and moved to Israel. She played briefly with Electra Ramat HaSharon, before she decided to move to Harbin, China, for the 2002 season. Udoka returned to Harbin for the 2003 season before joining the Chicago Blaze of the NWBL. She was invited to Houston Comets training camp in 2003 and became a free agent.
Udoka, after several years of being away from the WNBA in the past, returned to the Houston Comets in 2003. Udoka played in 25 games with the Comets and was able to start 3 of them. She averaged 3.2 points per game and played for 10 minutes. Udoka signed for the Los Angeles Sparks to play in the remaining WNBA season 2004. She had previously represented Nigeria at the Athens Olympics. However, she played in just three games.
In May 2011, Udoka was named as the new Assistant Coach for the Nigeria women’s national basketball team D’Tigress as they prepare for the African Nations Cup in Mali and the All Africa Games.
