Mette Frederiksen is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on November 19, 1977 in Aalborg, North Jutland, Denmark. Mette Frederiksen, Danish politician; Danish pronunciation: [‘met@] ‘fRedReksn; born 19/11/77) has been the Prime Minister of Denmark since June 2019, and Leader of Social Democrats since June 2015. She is the second female to hold either office and also the youngest Prime Minster in Danish history.
Frederiksen was born in Aalborg. Her father was a typographer, and her mother was an educator. She was educated at the AalborghusGymnasium, and then studied administration and social sciences at Aalborg University. She graduated in 2007.
Under Frederiksen’s leadership starting after the 2015 general election in which the Social Democrats returned to first place and gained three seats in the Folketing, the party has moved back to the left on economics while trying to outdo the Danish right-wing parties on having a hard line on immigration.
Frederiksen gained international attention in August 2019 when President of the United States Donald Trump cancelled a state visit to Denmark following her refusal to sell Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark. On 15 August, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had discussed the possibility of buying Greenland with aides. Kim Kielsen, the Premier of Greenland, responded by saying that Greenland is not for sale. On 18 August, after the rumor was confirmed by the White House, Frederiksen echoed Kielsen’s comments, saying that “Greenland is not Danish. Greenland belongs to Greenland”, and called the discussion “absurd”. On 20 August, Trump cancelled the state visit, scheduled 2–3 September, with specific reference to Frederiksen’s refusal to discuss a possible sale.
Frederiksen is a strong opponent to prostitution. She has been a strong advocate for the ban on the purchase of sex in countries like Sweden, Norway, and Iceland for many years. She opened the 2002 debate on prostitution and was behind 2009’s congressional decision that Social Democrats would “work to ban the purchase of sexual services”. Frederiksen became more skeptical about liberal mass immigration after she saw the negative effects it had on a large portion of the population. This was a pressing issue since 2001, when Frederiksen lost her faith in the party. She argued that the perception that the Social Democrats adopted the Third Way, practiced centrist, neoliberal economies, and supported unrestricted internationalisation was a contributing factor to the party’s poor electoral performance during the 21st century. Frederiksen said in a recent biography that it was becoming clearer to her that the price for unregulated globalization, mass immigration, and the free movement labor is paid by the lower classes. ‘.

Frederiksen was a youth consultant at LO, the Danish Confederation of Trade Unions. In 2001, Frederiksen was elected to the Copenhagen County Assembly. The Social Democrats lost the first place and placed second for the first times since 1920. Frederiksen, her party’s spokesperson on culture, media, and gender equality, was elected to office after her election. She was awarded the Nina Bang Prize in 2002 for her political courage, enthusiasm, and social impact. She was also awarded the Ting Prize 2012, and co-authored the books Epostler 2003 and From Fight to Culture 2004. Frederiksen was elected her party’s spokesperson on social affairs after the 2005 general elections lost. She was also vice-chairperson for the Social Democrats’ parliamentary group. Frederiksen was seventh among the ten most popular Danish politicians, having received 27,077 votes in the 2007 general election.
Frederiksen, a former trade unionist, was elected to the Folketing as Copenhagen County’s first representative in 2001. She was elected Minister of Employment by Helle Thorning Schmidt, Prime Minister after the Social Democrats won 2011. Later, she was promoted to Minister of Justice in 2014. Thorning Schmidt was defeated by the Social Democrats in the 2015 general elections. Frederiksen won her subsequent leadership election and became Leader of the Opposition.
In May 2010, it was revealed that Frederiksen’s daughter, along with the children of several other prominent Social Democrat politicians, was being educated at a private school. Along with her colleagues, Frederiksen was accused of hypocrisy by the Danish press as her party had long seen the promotion of public education as a key policy. In 2005, Frederiksen had openly criticised parents who sent their children to private schools. Frederiksen responded to the criticism by saying that her opinion on private education had become more nuanced since her remarks in 2005 and that it would have been hypocritical of her to put her own political career ahead of her daughter’s best interest. After the 2011 general election which led to a Social Democrats government, Frederiksen served under Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt as Minister of Employment from 2011 to 2014 and Minister of Justice from 2014 until she succeeded her as party leader. As Minister of Employment, she headed for reforms of early retirement pensions, flex jobs and the employment system. Likewise, the controversial cash assistance reform meant lower cash benefits for young unemployed and provided cohabiting mutual support, among other things.
