The third Night Soil film, which completes the trilogy, was premiered at Tate Modern’s Artists Cinema in London on September 7, 2016. The Next Level exhibition will feature it at Foam museum, Amsterdam from September 15th 2016.
Bonajo’s film series Night Soil is a trio of experimental documentaries about modern approaches to nature and the cultural implications of acting against capitalism. The first in the series, Night Soil – Fake Paradise, is about psychedelic plant medication and human-plant conversations. The sequel, Night Soil – Economy of Love presents an alternative ethical model for sex-work healing and activism. The third film, “Night Soil – Nocturnal Gardening” questions the role of radical agriculture in a world of dwindling natural resources and disconnection to nature. Her other recent film, which premiered at Hacking Habitat, Progress vs. Regress is the first in a trilogy that questions how technology has evolved through the eyes of elderly people in the Netherlands. This film was also selected for IDFA (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam) 2016
In April 2017, Melanie Bonajo has been selected and shortlisted for the Prix de Rome Visual Arts 2017.
Bonajo’s first major publication, Spheres, was released in December 2015. Matrix Botanica Nonhuman Persons, designed by Experimental Jetset. It explores how we perceive nature via the internet and blogs that post adorable, sad, or funny videos and photos of nonhuman animals. This publication examines how nature education has evolved over time and incorporates the perspectives of animal behavior scientists, rather than the National Geographic perspective.

Bonajo’s Furniture Bondage photography series combines domestic tools with naked female bodies. Genital International was a feminist performance collective that she founded in 2012. It is a celebration of equality and participation. Bonajo’s music video work Pee on Presidents and her photography series are often linked to the anti-censorship and the sex-positive branches in feminist movements for their endorsement of female body agency within public environments.
