2004 saw Mehmet Terzi elected president of Turkey Athletic Federation for a four-year term. In 2008, he was reelected for a fourth term. After winning his third consecutive election in 2012 he was forced to resign due to a doping scandal in Turkish athletics in the summer 2013. Terzi resigned as the TAF President on August 1, 2013, right before the World Championships at Moscow.
He was a marathoner for Turkey at the 1988 Seoul Olympics in Los Angeles, but didn’t achieve a top ranking.

Mehmet Terzi won the bronze medal at 1979 Mediterranean Games, Split, Yugoslavia. He also won the marathon gold medal at 1983 Mediterranean Games, Casablanca (Morocco). After receiving silver medals at the 1983 Frankfurt, Germany and 1978 Paris marathons, he won the Istanbul Marathon in 1985, and the San Francisco Marathon, 1987.
