She has appeared in serials and films in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Tamil languages. She was awarded the Tamil Nadu State Award as Best Actress Critic’s Choice 2006 and the Kerala State Television Award as Best Actress 2007.

After unsuccessful films such as Anjali I Love You, Telugu, and Arivumani, in Tamil, she entered the Malayalam film market in 2005 with Thanmathra (Blessy- directed) alongside Mohanlal, a Malayalam actor. She was a housewife, mother, and grandmother to Lekha Ramesan and received positive reviews.

In 2009, she had three releases, the Malayalam-language films Orkkuka Vallappozhum, Decent Parties and Vairam: Fight For Justice, in which she portrayed a Malayali housewife, whose daughter gets molested and killed. The fourth release was Aattanayagan, co-starring Sakthi Vasu and Remya Nambeeshan. Projects she is currently working on include Thasaiyinai Thee Sudinum, a period drama set in the 1940s.

After a haitus she made her comeback to Malayalam films in 2017 with Chakkaramaavin Kombathu and later portrayed notable roles in offbeat films like Silence, appuvinte sathyanveshanam, Paykappal and Panigrahanam. In 2020, she moved her focus to television playing the female lead Sumithra in Malayalam television serial Kudumbavilakku on Asianet and antagonist in Tamil series Chithi-2 on Sun TV which rose her popularity again among the south Indian audience.

Meera wed Vishal Agarwal in 2005, the son of Ashok Kumar, a cinematographer. They separated in July 2010. She married John Kokken in Malayalam, and they had a son Ariha John. They split in 2016.

Along with Milind Soman, she was introduced to the film industry through the 2003 Hindi satirical film Rules – Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula. After 500 failed screen tests, Prahlad Kakkar’s Setmax ad won the best campaign award. Parvati Balagopalan, her mother, noticed the film’s success and gave her a screen check for Rules: Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula. She was also nominated by Screen Awards as well as Sansui-PNC Awards for best upcoming actress. However, her Telugu film Golmaal was released first. She made her Tamil film debut that year, as she appeared in Samuthirakani’s directorial debut Unnai Sarandainthen. In which she shared screen space alongside Venkat Prabhu, S. P. B. Charan, and others. The film’s portrayal of Bobby, a village girl from adamant villages, was well received by critics, and she won the Tamil Nadu State Film Special Award in Best Actress.
