The Lynx made a trade for Martin and Erin Buescher in 2002 to the Charlotte Sting. In exchange, Shaunzinski Gortman was the 9th overall selection of the Sting in the 2002 WNBA Draft. Due to injury, the Sting waived her during their preseason training camp.

She was inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.

Martin graduated from UCLA in 2000 after attending college. She started her professional career as a player with the Minnesota Lynx, Women’s National Basketball Association.

Martin was selected to the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team, now known as the U18 team. The third Junior World Championship was held in Chetumal (Mexico) in late August/early September 1996. The USA team won the first games easily but was defeated by Brazil’s team, who took home the silver medal.

Martin remained with the team as it was invited to participate in the 1997 FIBA Junior World Championship, now known as U19. Martin scored a double- double of 24 points and 11 rebounds in the first game against Japan. This led to the team’s victory. Next was the game against Australia, who is currently the champion. The USA team led by 13 points in the second period, but lost the game by 80 to 74. With 23 points from Martin and Lynn Pride, the USA won 92-88 against Cuba. The USA went on to defeat previously unbeaten Russia. The USA then faced Australia in the gold-medal game after winning the first two games. The USA team had a lead of three points late but the Aussies scored a three pointer with three seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. The Aussies won the game, but the USA team came back to win the gold medal. This is the first Junior World Championship medal for the USA. Martin scored 17.9 points per match and was second in rebounding with 7.0.

She began her coaching career as an assistant coach at the University of Portland in 2003. Beginning with 2004, she served as an assistant coach to her alma mater, UCLA. She went on to coach at Pepperdine from 2008-2010.
