Mauro Galetti is one of the most popular and richest Biologist who was born on January 19, 1967 in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. Galetti was born during the Military regime in Brazil in Campinas. Galetti is the grandson of a Portuguese immigrant, Madeira Island’s father. He was also the son of a Physics teacher. His brother Marcos Rodrigues and his uncle Pedro Manoel Galetti Jr. are biologists. Galetti was born in Campinas (Sao Paulo) and graduated from University of Cambridge at the age of 25. Galetti is an alumni member of Robinson College. He was raised in suburban schools until his parents made him move to Imaculada Coracao de Maria, a prestigious private school. In 1986, he enrolled in the Biology program at Universidade Estadual de Campinas. He noticed that the majority of classes at the university were boring and decided to spend his mornings in Mata de Santa Genebra in Campinas, Sao Paulo. He began to study squirrels and howler monkeys. He began by following a group howler monkeys at dusk until dawn. But because howlers sleep most of the time, he decided to study other forest frugivores. He was inspired to continue his research on the forest’s interactions with fruits and other frugivores by his former naturalist professors, Keith Brown, Wesley R. Silva, and Leonor Patricia Cerdeira Mellato, his Master supervisor. He spent his mornings in the small forest near the university, watching birds and mammals eat fruits.

He returned to Brazil after four months spent in Borneo and was made a Professor at Universidade Estadual Paulista. He was a Stanford student and was associated with Rodolfo Dirzo (the father of defaunation).

Galetti received his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1996. Galetti was under the supervision of David J. Chivers, a primatologist. Galetti was influenced by Carlos A. Peres, a young primatologist. Galetti decided to test the idea of keystone species in tropical forest. He compared the abundance of fruit-eating animals and mammals in areas that have a dense population Euterpe Eudulis with those without palms. He spent a week in Seville during his last year in Cambridge with Pedro Jordano, which changed his life. Jordano, a young scientist who was an expert in seed dispersal and frugivory, took Galetti to Sierra de Cazorla to teach him about Mediterranean ecosystems. Galetti moved to Kalimantan in Indonesia to study seed dispersal before returning to Brazil. Galetti had planned to spend a full year studying seed dispersal by sunbears and hornbills for the first time. However, after three months of civil war in Indonesia, he decided to go back to Brazil. He was among the first ecologists in the world to study hornbills and toucans in the wild.
