Maureen Elizabeth Watt, born 23 June 1951, is a politician in the Scottish National Party (SNP). She was previously Minister for Mental Health within the Scottish Government. Since 2011, she is the Member of Scotland’s Parliament (MSP), representing Aberdeen South and North Kincardine. She previously served as a regional representative for North East Scotland between 2006 and 2011.

Watt delivered her maiden speech in April 2006, on the topic of Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation. She beat John Scott’s record of 17 hours and 25 minutes between taking the Parliamentary oath and Watt’s maiden speech.

After the SNP’s victory at the 2007 Scottish Parliament Election, Watt was appointed as the Minister for Schools and Skills. She left this office on 10 February 2009.

She was Convener of the Scottish Parliament Infrastructure and Capital Investment Committee from 15 June 2011. On 21 November 2014 she was appointed Minister of Public Health, succeeding Michael Matheson who was promoted to the Cabinet.

Watt was a candidate for the 2003 Scottish Parliament election, but he was not elected. Richard Lochhead, who was elected to the Moray byelection in 2003, resigned before the term expired. Alasdair Allen was the next SNP member from 2003, but he declined to take his place in Parliament because he had won the nomination of the Western Isles SNP for the 2007 election. Maureen Watt was the next to take up the position.

Watt is the daughter a former SNP MP (1974-1979), Hamish Watt. She is married to Hamish Watt and has two children. Stuart Donaldson was one of her children. He served as the SNP MP for Aberdeenshire West & Kincardine in British Parliament between 2015 – 2017.
