Maty Mint Hamady is one of the most popular and richest Economist who was born on November 21, 1967 in Ayoun el Atrous, Hodh El Gharbi Region, Mauritania. Hamady was born 1967 in Ayoun El Atrous. She grew up in an active political family. She graduated from Nouakchott’s high school in 1986 with a baccalaureat. She continued her education in Mauritania, where she studied economics. In 1988, she earned a bachelor’s at the University of Nouakchott. She was a specialist in public economics, and she received her MA in 1990.

Hamady, the first woman mayor of Nouakchott in its history, was elected Mayor of Nouakchott on 4 February 2014. She defeated Mohamed Ould Elhacen, a moderate Islamist from Tewassoul. She said, “My election was a distinction message for Mauritanian women.”

In March 2011, she was elected Minister of Public Service, Labour and Modernization of Administration. The government raised the minimum wage from 21,000 UM to 30,000 UM in August 2011. She served her ministerial position until December 2013.

Maty Mint Hamady, a Mauritanian politician and economist, was born 1967. She has been Mayor of Nouakchott since 2014. She was previously Minister of Public Service, Labour and Modernization of Administration between 2011 and 2013.

Hamady started working in 1991 for Nouakchott’s Financial Management division. In 1993, she became the head of the tax census division. In 1997, she was promoted to the head of department of external relations. Hamady was appointed an auditor to the Court of Auditors in 1999. In 2006, she joined the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Central Bank. After serving two years as Director of Competition Consumer Protection and Fraud Control at Ministry, she was elected to the Monetary Policy Council of Central Bank of Mauritania. Hamady was appointed assistant director of SONIMEX in 2009, an export and import company. She was appointed Commissioner for Investment Promotion in the following year. She hosted a meeting with Iranian and Qatari investors, and offered her assistance in achieving their investment goals.
