Matthew started Magic Bus in 1999 with a group street- and slum-dwelling kids from Mumbai. These children were able to take a break from their daily challenges by participating in sports. Matthew quit his job at Cox & Kings in 2001 to devote himself fully to Magic Bus. With the intent of giving children a weekend away from the daily grind, he teamed up to Akanksha NGO. He hired a bus to take the rugby boys, along with other local NGOs, to the hill station or to the beach every fortnight. This bus was called the Magic Bus by the children. Matthew realized early on that the best way to influence and change people’s behavior was to use sport and mentors from their local community.
He has been accorded numerous accolades including Member of the British Empire and Business Standard Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2018.
Magic Bus, India’s largest non-profit, leads the fight against poverty. Magic Bus, which was founded in 1999, has helped more than a million children and youth to overcome poverty.

Matthew was born to an Army father in Cyprus. He is currently a British citizen, and lives in Mumbai, India, with his family. He went to boarding school in the United Kingdom.
