- He grew up in Woodville in Mississippi, approximately 45 minutes north from Baton Rouge. Tolbert attended Centreville Academy high school, where he also played track and field and football. Tolbert’s 1998 and 1999 state football championships were won by his football team. Tolbert ran back during his senior season and ran for 2,561 yards with 326 carries. Tolbert graduated in 2000 and played baseball for the University of Mississippi in Oxford. Tolbert played shortstop and second in his college career. In 2002, he was named Freshman All-American. Tolbert was drafted the following season by the Baltimore Orioles but did not sign with them. He played college summer baseball in 2003 and 2004 with the Bourne Braves, Cape Cod Baseball League. Tolbert was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 16th round of the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft. He signed with the team June 16, 2004.

Christopher Matthew Tolbert, born May 4, 1982, is an American former professional infielder. Tolbert graduated from Centreville Academy in 2000. He attended University of Mississippi for four year. Later, he was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles and the Minnesota Twins.
The Minnesota Twins selected Tolbert in the 16th round (481st overall), of the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft. Tolbert scored his first major league hit in the third inning against Joe Saunders, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitcher. Tolbert’s first major league RBI was against Gil Meche, Kansas City Royals pitcher.
Following the Twins’ 2009 spring training camp, Tolbert was optioned to the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings.
