Matt Stainbrook is one of the most popular and richest Athletics Competitor who was born on March 5, 1992 in Dayton, Ohio, United States. Stainbrook is the child of Nancy and Dave Stainbrook and has two siblings. His father, Dave Stainbrook, played football at Ohio University between 1980 and 1985. His older brother Andy (6’9″) (2.06 m), briefly attended the United States Air Force Academy. Tim (6’6″) (1.98 m), is a student at Xavier and played a key role in an episode that earned Matt a lot of national attention.
He was almost ignored in high school and earned the starting position at Western Michigan as a freshman center despite being completely ignored. His first game was against Xavier. He scored 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in a 68-65 loss for Xavier. Branch says that Chris Mack, Musketeers coach, “wonded” how the center, with his wild hair, pads on his knees, elbows, and goggles, had gone unnoticed when he was recruiting.
He went on to earn second-team All-Big East honors in his final college season of 2014–15, and was also one of the 10 finalists for that season’s Senior CLASS Award. He averaged just under 12 points and 7 rebounds per game in leading Xavier to the Sweet 16. Following the season Stainbrook joined the Xavier track and field team as a discus thrower and shot putter, and competed at the Big East Track & Field Outdoor Championship at Villanova University.
Ultimately, Stainbrook would transfer to Xavier after his sophomore season. Mack had some conditions before accepting him—he would have to cut his hair, stop wearing knee and elbow pads and lose 50 pounds (23 kg). Mack also wanted to remove Stainbrook’s goggles, but relented when Stainbrook told him they were prescription goggles that he needed in order to see well enough to play.
He was no longer restricted by NCAA restrictions on student-athletes. This included those who work off-campus. He also wanted to live off-campus, particularly in his last season. However, Xavier athletic department policy requires scholarship athletes to live in university accommodation. Being a walkon allowed him to fulfill that desire. Although student loans covered most of his academic expenses, there were still many expenses that he had to pay and a busy schedule that made it impossible for him to work. He had used Uber while at Xavier and researched the requirements to become a driver for Uber. With his 2004 Buick Rendezvous barely meeting eligibility for vehicles with a 10-year lifespan, he met all requirements and was approved to become a driver. He drove Uber for 25-30 hours per week during the basketball offseason. During basketball season, his hours dropped to 10-20 hours per week. Stainbrook said that driving is a way to relax. It’s refreshing to be able to chat with people who don’t want to talk about basketball as much as you do. He drove mainly in the vicinity of the Xavier campus and he estimates that half of those he met recognized him by his size and face.

Stainbrook, the son of Dave Stainbrook, was a 6’7″ standout football player (TE and OT) at Ohio University in early 1980s. He also worked as a software engineer in aerospace industry. He grew up in suburban Cleveland. John Branch, New York Times reporter, interviewed him in 2015. He admitted that he was a “nobody” at high school and did not play for the high school’s varsity team until his senior years. He originally planned to play at the local Division III school Case Western Reserve University, but he was offered a Division I scholarship by Western Michigan University.
Matthew Harrison Stainbrook, born March 5, 1992, is an American basketball player who plays for Iberojet Palma in the LEB Oro. He was a college basketball player for the Xavier Musketeers as well as the Western Michigan Broncos. Stainbrook was a leading rebounder and scorer during his two seasons at Xavier.
During his senior season in 2014–15, Stainbrook not only made news for his on- court play, but also for his part-time job as a driver for Uber. His journey to that job began the previous season when Tim walked on to the Xavier basketball team at Matt’s suggestion. Matt completed a bachelor’s degree in finance in May 2014 but still had a year of athletic eligibility remaining, and enrolled in the school’s MBA program. Tim’s undergraduate tuition was about $43,000 per year, while Matt’s graduate tuition was roughly $14,000. Even though Tim was receiving a partial academic scholarship, the family would have paid considerably more in education expenses if Matt were on scholarship while Tim was a walk-on. This led Matt to go to Xavier’s director of basketball operations and NCAA compliance director and give up his scholarship for his brother.
