He was part of the 1996 U.S. Olympic long team. He competed in the USA Olympic Team Pursuit at 4,000 meters in Barcelona in 1992. Matt is six times a National Champion (1991-92, 1993, 93), 94, 95, and 1996). His team set the American record for Team Pursuit in 1995, with a time in Paris of 4:10.065. The silver medal was won by Hamon’s Team Pursuit at the 1991 Pan American Games in Cuba.
After retiring from cycling in 1995 he began a career as a professional photographer. He earned a BA at Humboldt State University, Arcata, California and an MFA at the University of Washington in 2002.

Hamon was an American National Team member in 1990, 1993-96, and 1992 Olympian. At the 1994 World Track Cycling Championships, Palermo (Sicily), Hamon’s USA 4,000-meter Team Pursuit team came in second place. This silver medal was the highest American quartet’s finish in 32 years of World Championships history. His team won a bronze medal in 1995 at the World Track Cycling Championships held in Bogota (Colombia).
