Gillett played his junior football for the Bribie Island Warrigals and Morayfield State High School. In Round 1 of the 2010 NRL season Gillett made his NRL debut for the Brisbane Broncos in the season opening match against the North Queensland Cowboys, playing off the interchange bench and scoring a try on debut in the Broncos 30-24 win at Suncorp Stadium. On 26 September 2010, Gillett was selected for the Prime Minister’s XIII and played in the 30-18 win over Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby.
