She worked previously as an attorney in private practice and in 2009 she was named director of the medical nonprofit. She is a mediator at Gilbert Mediation since 2007.
The month of January 2007 shortly after her husband was sworn in for another term in his role as governor in January 2007, Judge Pawlenty announced that she would be retiring from the bench on February 12, 2007. She was hired by the National Arbitration Forum shortly thereafter as the general counsel in charge of the Forum’s legal matters. In the end, she resigned her job at the National Arbitration Forum and in September 2007 Pawlenty became a mediator for the Gilbert Mediation Center, where she assists the parties in settling disputes prior to and during civil litigation. From January 2009 until January 2010 her position was as the medical diplomat’s director for Children’s HeartLink, an international medical nonprofit organization.
The family was in their Eagan home rather than moving to the Governor’s residence following Tim Pawlenty was elected Governor of Minnesota in 2002, due to Mary’s obligation to remain within her district of judicial.
