In Pennsylvania’s 2001 judicial election, Bowes ran as a Republican for one of the three vacant places in the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. She was among the four Republicans along with three Democrats who ran. Despite receiving a score of “not recommended” from the Pennsylvania Bar Association for lack of appellate and trial advocacy experience, she was chosen as a candidate for her Republican nominating by Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Pittsburgh Post- Gazette and by the Republican State Committee.
