Mary Fitzpatrick is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on February 20, 1969 in Dublin, Ireland. Mary Fitzpatrick (born 20 February 1969) is a Irish Fianna Fail politician. She’s been an Dublin City Councillor since May 2019 and before that between 2004 and 2014.

In the 2007 general election that was conducted under Ireland’s single transferable voting system, the rival Cyprian Brady received only 939 votes for first preference (2.7 percent) on the opening count in contrast against Fitzpatrick’s 1,725. But he was elected in the fourth count because of votes he received from his running buddy the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, and became only the second elected TD (after Brian O’Higgins) to be elected with less than 1,000 first-preference votes.

As part of Micheál Martin’s strategy to rebuild a decimated Fianna Fáil party, she was put forward for Seanad election on the Administrative Panel but was not elected. As a consequence of the Seanad “inside/outside” election rules, Fitzparick was the highest polling candidate in the 2011 Seanad election not be elected.

In January 2011, she was selected as a Fianna Fáil candidate in Dublin Central for the 2011 general election. Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, who was not running again, said his loyalties this time would be with sitting TD Cyprian Brady and there was no hope of Fianna Fáil winning two seats in the constituency.

Mary Fitzpatrick, daughter of the former Fianna Fail deputy and third Fianna Fail candidate in the four-seat constituency received 1,725 votes for first preference and 1,362 of Ahern’s transfer votes (whereas Brady received 2,403). In the evening prior to voting day on the 24th of May 2007 Fitzpatrick handed out leaflets to homes in the area, asking voters to choose her as their first choice. Then, in the wee hours next morning a letter was handed out by the office of Ahern to the 30,000 residents of the district, informing them to choose your first choice to Taoiseach, and their second preference to Brady. Because Ahern was predicted to be elected with a substantial surplus, and that the general Fianna Fail vote was likely to be enough to select 2 candidates at a time, the outcome of the Taoiseach’s transfers could decide if Brady or Fitzpatrick took in the third Fianna Fail seat in Dublin Central. Following the transfer of Ahern’s funds, which made it possible for Brady to win the seat, Fitzpatrick complained that “I didn’t think they’d go out to completely undermine me and shaft me.” Ahern’s election manager Chris Wall blamed Fitzpatrick, declaring “She was asked not to do this sort of thing. Having then done it, she therefore effectively set in train a motion she wasn’t going to be able to stop.” Brady added that “An election is an election and not everybody can win” He added “Mary is a friend of mine, and she’s an excellent councillor. It’s not right to Mary to blame anybody”.

Fitzpatrick was elected for Dublin City Council in 2003 to replace her father Dermot Fitzpatrick who stepped in the wake of an amendment to the Local Government Act 2001 prohibited current council members from the Oireachtas from having local authority positions. She was elected again at this year’s local elections and received more than 10 percent of votes.

Fitzpatrick was the only Fianna Fáil candidate to be elected on the first count in Dublin in the 2009 local elections. The massive difference between Fitzpatrick’s result and that of Maurice Ahern, brother of the former Taoiseach who lost his council seat, was viewed as a reaction to perceived unfairness in Fitzpatrick’s treatment by the “Ahern machine” or the “Drumcondra mafia”.
