Mary Easson is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on June 16, 1955 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Mary Louise Easson (nee Alexander) (born 16 June 1955) is an Australian politician from Australia. The politician was an Australian Labor Party member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1993 until 1996, and was a member of the electorate in Sydney, which she was a member of. Lowe.
By the end of 1994, plane noise emanating from Sydney Airport was emerging as an important issue to deal with, with the shut-down of the runway that runs east-west putting pressure on Easson and the other MPs from the areas around the airport. She was also subject to pressure regarding the controversial decision of the government to increase woodchip exports. In the months leading up to the election in 1996 the issue of aircraft noise was becoming a more prominent issue. She received the distinction of being “pushed to the forefront” of the debate, however she was unable to cross the floor to endorse an amendment written by John Howard that would have opened the runway east- west, and reduced the amount of noise in her district. In the Sydney Morning Herald wrote that the Labor Party had “helped and cruelled her prospects”, however, the candidate was “unlikely to resist the backlash on noise”. In January 1996, amid low Labor results across the country media reports suggested she might struggle to hold her seat, with conflicting policies on airport noise becoming an important issue in the campaign. Her defeat was easily averted by the Labor victory in the 1996 federal election , by Liberal campaigner and state legislator Paul Zammit.
In 1996, she founded public affairs firm Probity International. In 1998, The Australian reported a corporate source saying of Easson: “People know that if you want anything from Labor you go to her.”.
Following her 1996 defeat, she was touted as a candidate either for Paul Keating’s federal seat of Blaxland or for Zammit’s former state seat of Strathfield; neither eventuated, with Keating’s support for his staffer Michael Hatton blocking her in Blaxland, and she specifically out a career in state politics.
The Democrat was elected into in the House of Representatives on her second try in the federal election of 1993 and defeated Liberal Shadow Health Minister Bob Woods after a redistribution resulted in a shift of the marginal seat to the direction of Labor. The result was described as an “surprise” victory that the party was not expecting to secure, with voter worried about Liberal plans for Medicare (in Woods’ portfolio) as well as what would happen to the Sydney Airport curfew and a campaign that was reportedly important. The campaign of Easson was widely celebrated following the election. She was a part in the Labor Right faction.
