Mary Anne Veronica Chambers, the OOnt (born September 8th in 1950) is a former politician from Ontario, Canada. She was an elected Member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2003 to 2007, and was a cabinet member during the time of the Minister Dalton McGuinty.

Chambers was appointed a Senior Vice-President at Bank of Canada in the year

1998. She was leaving the post in December 2002. She was also an ex-director of Grace, Kennedy (Ontario) Ltd. and Grace Foods International Ltd. These are prominent companies for distribution of food that are part of a parent company in Jamaica.

Chambers was appointed Ontario Minister of Children and Youth Services in June

2005. On July 11, 2007, she announced that she would not be running for re- election to the Ontario Legislature. In 2015, she was made a member of the Order of Ontario. On May 17, 2015, she spoke in support of the nomination of NDP candidate Adaoma Patterson for Brampton West.

Chambers was also an active member of the Board of Trustees of the United Way of Greater Toronto from 1994 until 2001, as well as president of the Canadian Club of Toronto from 1998 until 1999. She was presented with the Jamaican Prime Ministers ‘ Medal of Appreciation for her service in Jamaica in the presence of Jamaican PM Percival James Patterson in recognition of her service in Toronto’s Jamaican community.

Chambers is a native of Jamaica she moved to Canada in the year 1976. She graduated from The Immaculate Conception High School. She worked in the banking industry before entering politics. She was a member of Scotiabank in 1976 and was involved in the development of electronic and computer-based services within the bank. She also was a part of several taskforces on the gender role of women working in organisations. She graduated in 1988. earned an Master of Arts degree from the University of Toronto with a major in Commerce.

Chambers was a part of Rouge Valley Health System, being Vice-Chair for a period of. She was on the Board of Governors at the University of Toronto from 1993 until 2001, and Vice-Chair of the Governing Council from 1998 to 2001. She was instrumental in drafting the University policy that ensures that no student should be barred from attending Toronto due to financial insufficiency.

Chambers was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in the provincial election of 2003, as a Liberal in the riding of Scarborough East, defeating incumbent Progressive Conservative Steve Gilchrist by over 7000 votes. The Liberals won the provincial election, and Chambers was appointed Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities on October 23, 2003. In early 2004, she reaffirmed her government’s election pledge not to raise tuition rates.
