Gerard Patrick Martin McCaughey (24 February 1967 9 Oct 1990) was a member of the East Tyrone Brigade of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) from Aughnagar, Galbally, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. McCaughey was murdered in the hands of unidentified British Army soldiers in County Armagh in October of 1990, as was his fellow IRA volunteer Dessie Grew.
In 2010 a special portrait of McCaughey was revealed in the Mayor’s Parlour of Dungannon Council.
There is a pending legal case in court relating to McCaughey’s death. On January 7, 2007, lawyers for McCaughey and another participant, Pearse Jordan, applied to the House of Lords to challenge the manner in which the inquiry into their deaths would be conducted.
