Zbikowski was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1956. While at The Roeper School (then known as Roeper City And Country School) between 1961 and 1974, he discovered an interest in math and computers. The 8th grade performance he made in the Michigan Mathematics Prize Competition led to an invitation to join the NSF-funded summer program located at Oakland University where he became close to Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer and Jeff Sachs.
