Mark Soyer is one of the most popular and richest Alpine Skier who was born on April 24, 1978 in Benalla, Victoria, Australia. Mark Soyer (born 24 April 1978) is an Australian para-alpine LW11 classed skier. Leukaemia was a problem he had to battle twice when he was a kid. At 26 years old the doctor cut his spinal cord in an incident while on his motorcycle at the farm of his parents which led to him trying a number of different sports. As a gemologist and manufacturing jeweller in Melbourne and has been involved in para-skiing as volunteer and in various administrative positions for different organizations. In 2007 the finalist was named for the Pride of Australia award for his courage.
Soyer began skiing after his accident at an event in Australia. He later traveled to Colorado for another camp, and then returned to Australia to attend a different camp. He was recognized as the second-best sit-skier in Australia and was among the 50 top skiers around the world. He was a candidate for his way to the 2010 Winter Paralympics. He won bronze medals in ski events at New Zealand in 2011. In 2012 He was a part of the Australian Paralympic skiing team, located at the Australian Institute of Sports, and was attempting to get a place in at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia. He was a representative of Australia in the 2018 Winter Paralympics.
His results at the 2017 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships in Tarvisio,Italy were: 13th in the Giant Slalom Sitting and Slalom Sitting, 17th in the Super G Sitting and did not finish in the Super Combined Sitting.
At the 2018 Winter Paralympics, he competed in five events. He did not finish in three events and was 16th in the Men’s Super-G Sitting and 18th in the Men’s Giant Slalom, Sitting.
Between 2007 and 2008 Soyer employed as a jeweler and manufacturing technician in Melbourne. He also volunteers with Disabled Snowsport Australia to serve as ski instructor. From 2005 until 2008 the group raised more than $7,500 in AUD to help other Australian para-skiers with equipment needed to be able to compete. Additionally it was also his intention to give skiing lessons. He also serves part of the board for Able Management Group, an organisation that helps disabled people to learn about para-alpine skiing and is a member of the Fundraising Committee. He was part of the formation of the AMG Free Ride Team. He also is a part of the Australian Paralympic Committee’s WorkCoverSA Paralympian Speakers Program. As of 2007, the physiotherapist was able to help to run three adaptive ski camps in Victoria being a finalist in the Pride of Australia awards for bravery.

In November 2004 at the age 26, Soyer severed his spinal cord after an accident riding his motorbike around the farm of his parents. He wanted to get active whenever he could as he recovered. He tried a variety of sports like wheelchair tennis, and basketball in wheelchairs after his accident, trying to find the one that would make him feel capable of moving. He rode dune buggies, attempted kayaking. He also in 2007 he was learning to paraglide.

Going into the 2008/2009 ski season, he needed to raise AUD$20,000 to allow him to compete internationally to qualify for the Games. In August 2009, he competed in the Winter Games NZ at Coronet Peak in the men’s sitting LW11 slalom event. At the 2011 New Zealand Winter Games, he finished third in the men’s sitting giant slalom event with a time of 1:46.08. Arriving late to the event, he did not have much training time to learn the course. At another skiing event in 2011 in Mt Hutt, New Zealand, he finished third in the Super G. He competed at the 2011 IPC Alpine Skiing Noram Cup at Copper Mountain, Colorado, where he earned three fourth-place finishes and one seventh-place finish. Early in his trip, prior to competing, he broke his race ski and had equipment difficulties at the Noram Cup as a result. He had a time of 2:00.69 in the giant slalom race. In 2012, he was a member of the Australian Paralympic skiing team, based out of the Australian Institute of Sports, and was trying to secure a spot for the 2014 Winter Paralympics. In January 2012, he was in Austria to compete at the Abtenau IPCAS. That year, Liberty Skis Corporation signed him to its professional team.
