Mark Reeder (born 5 January 1958) is a producer and musician. He was raised living in Manchester, England. From a young age, Reeder became interested in progressive rock and , in particular, earlier electronic music. As a teenager working as a clerk in a tiny Virgin Records store in Manchester city center.

Reeder’s professional career spans nearly four decades. Reeder has been a part of as well as a behind-the-scenes influence for many famous musicians, spreading across an array of music genres. Because of his vast knowledge in the field of music the musician has been a part of and chaired panels at several international music conventions from the mid-80s onwards.

In 1981, Reeder formed the synthpop-rock duo Die Unbekannten, together with Alistair Gray, and then drummer Thomas Wydler (who later played in Die Haut and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) joined, Die Unbekannten became a trio. After Wydler left to play in Die Haut, he still remained as Die Unbekannten guest drummer for the occasional live gig.

Reeder had contacts to the East Berlin underground new wave music scene and travelled a lot to East Berlin for concerts. He eventually helped to bring Die Toten Hosen over to East Berlin for their two secret gigs in 1982 and 1988, the 1982 gig being the first concert by a western punk band in East Berlin, disguised as a religious service. In summer 1989, he was officially asked if he would produce the album Torture, for up-and-coming East German indie band Die Vision for the East German state-owned record label AMIGA in East Berlin. This was probably the first East-West joint venture. Reeder is recognised as the only Englishman ever to have had the privilege to make a record in the East, because literally days after finishing recording the album, the notorious Berlin Wall fell.

With his deep expertise in the field of music, Reeder has participated and presided on panels at a variety of international music events in the 1980s and into the 1990s. The first one he attended was was which was for BID (Berlin Independence Day) during 1990 with Sex Pistols creator Malcolm McLaren and music writers Dave Rimmer and Jon Savage. Other events include chairing panels at ADE (Amsterdam Dance Festival) about a range of techno-related topics, as well as guest panelists Ben Liebrand, Ferry Corsten, Mark Gobulev and Jaydee. Also, join at the “Musik & Maschine” International Techno Fair along with DJ techno Jeff Mills in Berlin. Reeder participated in his first dance electronic festival VIBRATO 2000 in New Delhi, India, and then London Calling in UK. He has delivered lectures and workshops at Tecnogeist, San Luis Potosi and G. Martell College of Music and Audio in Mexico City.

Mark Reeder formed the punk group The Frantic Elevators together with Mick Hucknall (Simply Red) and Neil Moss in Manchester, in the early part of 1977. He joined the band in early 1978. made the decision to quit Britain and relocate towards West Berlin. In Berlin, he was the Factory Records German representative promoting the labels’ artists, Joy Division and ACR and was also an engineer for bands such as the all-girl avant garde band Malaria! (who co-managed with him) or the punk group Die Toten Hosen.

Reeder has lived and worked in Berlin since 1978. Reeder is the creator as well as the owner of German electronic music label MFS as well as Flesh. Since 1991, Reeder was introduced to the teen Paul van Dyk, guiding and leading him to achieve his current famous DJ fame. The book by Dave Haslam Adventures on the Wheels of Steel The Rising of the Superstar DJs describes the process by which Reeder started and then successfully laid out van Dyk’s career path between 1991 and 1999 and thanks to Reeder’s respectability and extensive connections to the industry, van Dyk was able to rise the ladder of fame and eventually reach his star status.

They released two very dark and depressive 12″ EPs between 1981 and 1982. Debut EP, Die Unbekannten(1981) which consisted of 3 tracks “Radio war”, “Casualties”, and “Poseidon”, Their second EP Dangerous Moonlight (1982) which had 4 tracks “Don’t Tell me Stories”, “Perfect Love”, “Against the Wall” and “The Game”. Dangerous Moonlight was repressed with a different cover design in 1983.
