In the year 2011, McGuire took the decision to leave his home city and relocated into Portland (OR). In the same year Peter Rehberg of editions Mego edited and curated an album of self-released music McGuire had collected over through the years. It was called A Young Person’s guide to Mark McGuire, it contained two discs that contained twenty chosen tracks. Prior to leaving Cleveland, McGuire had begun the process of creating his next album as a solo artist, Get Lost, completing it within the first few months after his departure. McGuire described it as a’reflection of all the things that were happening inside my head at the time , and also the events that were taking place within me’. The album was released in September of 2011. it was described in the New York Times as ‘album is warm, well-paced as well as reassuring, confident, as well as manageable to length. however, it’s self- consciously naive in the way it feels, and floppy and strangely distant’.
