Born in Auckland to Samoan parents and was active with Auckland’s Pacific Islander community.
On May 31, 2011 Gosche was elected chairman of the Asia Pacific Rugby League Confederation.
Vui Mark Gosche is the Chief Executive of Vaka Tautua, a role he took up in July 2014 after 5 years on the governance board. Vaka Tautua is a not for profit ‘for Pacific by Pacific’ community health and social service provider working in the areas of disability, mental health, older people, family violence and financial capability – with offices in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The governance board and staff of Vaka Tautua are almost all of Pacific Island heritage and all operational staff are bilingual.
In June 2018 Housing and Urban Development Minister Phil Twyford announced Gosche as deputy chair of the Housing New Zealand board.

Vui Mark Gosche from Samoan origins. Prior to taking on his current job as Chief Advisor Strategic Relations at the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs in Auckland as well as a Member of the NZ Parliament (1996-2008) who held ministerial portfolios in the cabinet for Housing, Pacific Island Affairs, Transport, Corrections and Racing and for 15 years, he was a union representative for workers in the service industry – where he established four health centres that offered basic health care at a low cost and services (doctors and nurse). After leaving politics, he has held numerous administration positions such as NZ Rugby League, TYLA Trust, COMET Auckland, Vaka Tautua, Brain Injury Association, Talklink Trust and Fonua Ola. He currently sits as a member of the executive board for Lifewise which he was also recently appointed to. Mt. Wellington Licensing Trust which owns and manages hotel and conference facilities The profits are distributed to the community via a trust for charitable donations. Vui’s experiences are also influenced from his partner Carol who he serves as caregiver for. Carol was diagnosed with a major brain hemorrhage in the year 2002. His wife and he have 7 grandchildren.
The first time he was elected to the Parliament as a list MP during the 1996 election. He has been a member of his Auckland district in Maungakiekie since the election in 1999. The MP has served in a variety of Cabinet positions such as Minister of Corrections and Minister of Housing and Housing, Minister of Transport in addition to Minister of Pacific Island Affairs. In May 2002, however he quit all of his ministerial posts due to the serious health issues of his wife who was suffering from brain hemorrhage. In April 2007, he received the awarded his Samoan matai title Vui in the village of his grandmother in Lano located in Samoa. In the 2008 elections, Gosche left politics in order to spend more time with his family.
Gosche’s term on the NZRL board ended in 2012 after he decided not reapply for the position. At the 2016 Auckland elections, Gosche was elected to the Mt Wellington Licensing Trust.
