Irish history plays a crucial influence on the development of Marina Carr’s thoughts and ideas. It is not just the Northern Troubles is one. Carr’s emphasis on the harsh treatment of children may be a reflection of her being a child in the midst of the Northern Ireland Riots of 1969 and also to her age of seven years old when she experienced Bloody Friday and Sunday. The difficulties that the characters of Carr suffer often have a connection to the hardships Carr herself experienced. For instance, Hester Swane from By the Bog of Cats was left at the age of seven. At the time that Marina Carr was 7, Bloody Friday and Bloody Sunday occurred. Through the course of 20 years, and prior to Bloody Sunday, the Provisional Irish Republican army was seeking to be involved in rebellion in opposition to the British. British rule is a further example since the Irish were directly ruled for a lengthy period of time Hester’s disdain for authority and her active rebellion are related to the Irish disliking British authorityand the realization of Irish tradition like Things fall Apart. This ongoing subject of rebellion is a prominent theme in her writing and is evident in her youth.
