In an interview that was published by Les Inrockuptibles on 30 August 2009, NDiaye declared about Sarkozy’s France, “I find that France monstrous. Marie NDiaye (born 4 June 1967) is a French writer and novelist. Her first novel was published, Quant au riche avenir at the age of 17 years old. She was awarded the Prix Goncourt in 2009. Her play Papa must manger is the only play by a female living writer to be included in that repertoire for the Comedie french.

She began writing when she was 12. When she was a senior in high school she was recognized through Jerome Lindon, founder of Editions de Minuit, who published her first novel called Quant au riche avenir in 1985. The author later wrote seven novels that were all of which were published by Minuit as well as an anthology in short tales. She also composed the novel she called Comedie classique, a 200-page novel comprised of a single line, that is published in 1988 by Editions P.O.L in 1988, at the age of 21 young. Along with writing novels NDiaye wrote a variety of plays and screenplays. Her 2003 drama Papa should manger is the only play written by a woman to be included in the collection of Comedie french.

Her novel Trois femmes puissantes won the 2009 Prix Goncourt. In his 2013 critical study of the author, Marie NDiaye: Blankness and Recognition, British academic Andrew Asibong describes her as “the epitome of a certain kind of cultural brilliance”, arguing elsewhere in the book, a psychoanalytic exploration of the writer’s evocation of trauma and disavowal, that “NDiaye’s work explores the violence done to the subject’s capacity for feeling and knowing”.
