Margielyn Didal was the daughter of Julie and Lito Didal, who was born in Cebu City, Philippines on 19 April 1999. Her father is a carpenter and her mother is a street vendor selling kwek-kwek. She is the second-youngest of five siblings.

She represented the Philippines at the women’s street skating event in skateboarding. Before the event, she had spent two months training in the USA. Didal was awarded the fourth Philippine gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games. Didal won the gold with 30.4 points after seven attempts. Bunga Nyimas, a bronze medalist from Indonesia and Isa Kaya, a silver medalist, accumulated 25, 19,8 and 25, respectively. After scoring 14.2 points in her two previous runs, Didal scored 8.9 points in her fourth run. This was after she performed the 360-degree flip out, backside 50/50, and 360-degree flip out, which is a first in major competitions. This was the highest point in the entire women’s street-park event.

Due to her performance in the SLS, a local through an online open letter address Cebu City Mayor Tommy Osmeña to build a skate park in the city as recognition to Didal’s feat. Osmeña then responded that if Cebu City will be the overall champions of the 2018 Philippine National Games, half of the prize money will be allotted for a sports park which will prioritize skateboarding at the South Road Properties.

Didal would later compete in tournaments abroad and secured sponsors. She became the first Filipino skateboarder to compete in the Street League Skateboarding when she participated in the SLS PRO Open in London, England on May 26, 2018. In the preliminary round, she finished fourth and advanced to the final round to finish eight overall.

Time magazine named Didal among its “25 Most Influential Teens” for 2018. It recognized Didal’s feat of winning a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games, which it stated would “cement skating as a serious activity” in the Philippines.
