He becomes a professional at the end of 1987, and will continue to be a member of the National Team until 1999. He won the 1989 Triconfort Open, Challenge Tour, and the Citta Di Fiuggi Trophy (ITA 1990). As a professional, he also represented Italy at the 1993 Dunhill Cup in Taiwan. He was second at the Italian Omnium Championship (1990), the Italian Match-play Championship (1990), and the 1991 Italian PGA Championship. He won the Italian PGA Pairs Championship in 1998 with Andrea Canessa.
The most significant achievement in his amateur career was winning the 1979 Junior Orange Bowl title in Miami. He was also the first non-American to win this title. Other notable achievements include the 1981 Aer Lingus Trophy at Dublin, which included a course record 65 at Royal Dublin G.C, and the 1987 Swiss International Championship, after beating Francois Illouz in a playoff. Seven Italian Titles were also won, including the 1981 Medal National Championship at G.C., with a course record of 70. After a playoff against Craig Francis, Le Betulle in Biella was followed by the 1981 Italian International Championship.

Durante was born in Sanremo. Franco Zanini, Garlenda (Italy) introduced him to golf in 1969. In 1976, he won his first title in Italy at the Second Category National Championship. He made his debut as an Amateur National Team member at the Junior European Championships in Oslo in 1977. He was part of the team through 1987. He participated in 9 European Championships to the Pinehurst World Championships (USA 1980) and the University World Championships in Is Molas(ITA) where his team won and he placed 4th individually.
He was a member of the European Team and played in a variety of matches against GB & Ireland. (Jacques Leglise Trophy – Boys, 1977-1980; Juniors 1980; St Andrews Trophy 1981). He was part of the first continental team to defeat the British Islands (Dundee 1977). This success was repeated by the Lund Junior team, Sweden in 1980.
At the end of his professional career he turned to sport management: councillor of the Italian Golf Federation (FIG) since 2001 (reconfirmed for the four-year term 2013–16), supervisor of the Technic Professional Branch since 2002 and representative of the Legal Affairs Committee; councillor of the Italian PGA (from 1988 to March 2013); National Councillor of CONI since 2005 (reconfirmed for the four-year term 2013–16); Vice President of National Athletes Committee for the four-year term 2009–12; President of National Athletes Committee for the four-year term 2013–16.
