His mother Rosa Maria de Campos Velho was the Teatro de Arena de Porto Alergo director. Birck, who has a passion for music and the arts since childhood, graduated from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in music. He then received a master’s in music education from the Federal University of Goias.

Birck also worked with Jupiter Apple to arrange “Eu e Minha Ex”, one of his most famous songs. Later, he returned to the project’s 1999 sequel, Plastic Soda. He was a guest musician in Rogerio Skylab’s 2009 live album Skylab IX. Skylab, a huge fan Birck, co-wrote the song “Samba de uma Nota So ao Contrario”. He was a Santa Catarina State University lecturer in musical analysis from 2002 to 2003.

Birck started a side project that was more experimental and “performative” than Graforreia Xilarmonica in 1988. It was called Aristoteles de Ananias Jr. and included names like Luciano Zanatta and Diego Silveira. The band released a self-titled studio album in 1996, before disbanding the next year.

Marcelo de Campos Velho Birck, a Brazilian singer-songwriter and lyricist, is best known for his work in the influential rock band Graforreia Xilarmonica.

Marcelo founded the band Prisao de Ventre in 1983 with his younger brother Alexandre Birck and future TNT guitarist Luis Gomes (later Os Cascavelletes bassist Frank Jorge). The band lasted just two years. He reunited with Jorge and his brother to form Graforreia Xilarmonica in 1987, along with Carlo Pianta. They released two albums that were critically acclaimed, Coisa de Louco II (1995), and Chapinhas de Ouro (2000). However, the band broke up in

2000. After a five-year hiatus, they reunited.

In 2000 Birck teamed up with Thomas Dreher and Felipe Faraco to form Os Atonais; their first (and so far only) studio album, Em Amplitude Moderada, came out the same year, amid overwhelmingly positive reviews. Later that year he released his first, self-titled solo album. A follow-up, Timbres Não Mentem Jamais, came out in 2008.
