Marc Adornato is one of the most popular and richest Artist who was born on June 7, 1977 in Montreal, Canada. Adornato was conceived in Montreal, Quebec in 1977. His formative years (1982-1986), he spent in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) with his family before moving to Ottawa, Ontario in 1990. He graduated in 2001 from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design with a major media art concentration.
2014-15 #MYPROTEST: In 2015, Adornato completed a year long performance-meets- protest in which the artists cycled through Ottawa on a self-constructed electric bike while wearing a gas mask. Adornato captured and documented the public’s reactions to the piece on social media. #MYPROTEST used propaganda- inspiring media tactics to convey condemnation of the topics of GMOs and wealth inequality. The video is still available on YouTube and features music from Hilotrons. An ATIPS (access-to-information privacy) request by the artist revealed that an RCMP investigation was conducted, evidence of protest-based activities.
Adornato received attention across Canada and into the US for his 2015 RBC Painting competition submission titled Arbie Goes Rogue.
Adornato’s artwork has been in numerous exhibits, most recently the Ruined Landscapes series displayed in 2016 at the Ottawa Art Gallery in a salon style show that packed the house titled “I’ve got some bad news”. Pieces in this collection are now part of numerous public and private collections including the City of Ottawa Art Collection, and individual collections of Canadian singer-songwriter Jim Bryson, Bridgehead founder Tracey Clark, and owner of the former Byward Market nightclub Zaphod Beeblebrox, Eugene Haslam. His work has also appeared in The Julian Garner Greyarea Gallery, the Canadian War Museum, Weapons of Mass Dissemination: The Propaganda of War, The Bank of Canada’s Currency Museum, Sacred Money, Damned Money and appears frequently in non-traditional locations including restaurants and the artist’s own renegade installs. The artist is rumoured to be working on a new series to be released in 2020 titled “Dystopia Rising”.
Adornato began to use a more assemblage-oriented approach to his artwork in 2010. His first work with antique materials was in the 1960s. He used everything from radios, typewriters and cameras to make his artwork, as well as vintage fur pelts and antlers. His current sculptures continue to reflect his hybrid assemblage/mashup style. The Hunting Dissent series is a recent highlight. Adornato was criticized for allegedly copying his work and it led to a dispute with the local restaurant. Along with the BlowUp Dolls and Progress Derailed, the Hunting Dissent series are some of the many exhibits that can be seen in non-traditional venues around Ottawa.

Marc Adornato, a Canadian contemporary artist, was born June 7, 1977. He is based in Ottawa. His work includes painting, mixed media and video, as well as performance. His subversive and satirical artwork often addresses socio- political issues like climate change, terror, state surveillance, wealth inequality, and other such topics is what makes him famous.
Adornato was a pro-cloning scientist, politician, and historian whose work covered “pro-cloning”, “sciences, politics, and history”. He was particularly interested in “la guerre and le clonage”. Adornato created a series called Anarchos Apokalypsis, where he burnt, shredded, and “smashed to pieces” the artworks. These were then displayed in galleries and museums. It covers the period 2005-2006, during which Adornato participated in The War Story Collective. This series also included The Fish performance installation, where he set a robot singing fish on fire. Robo-Christ was made with cheap disposable technology and several video mash-ups, including In God We Trust and State of the Union, which address George W. Bush’s war in Iraq. The artist’s video remixes are still available on YouTube. Adornato is known for challenging public figures and speaking out against traditional media outlets. His work was also displayed at the Bank of Canada’s Currency Museum. Adornato identified himself as a “technophile” during this period. He used “favourite newscasts”, just like any artist uses a preferred brush or type paint. His early works were described as “an eclectic mix and remix of fantasy, comedy parody, and sharp socio-political comment”.
The painting, Adornato’s first, depicts a Royal Bank of Canada building on fire, with the RBC mascot ‘Arbie’ holding a sign saying “iProtest”. In a press release statement about the painting Adornato wrote, “It is wonderful to see that RBC has thrown some of their spare change into the hats of a few emerging Canadian painters over the past few years…I do hope my painting wins the $25,000 reward for the 2015 RBC Canadian Painting Competition. After being taxed on almost half of that, I will be able to put the rest towards my student loans, and RBC’s outrageous banking, brokerage, mutual funds, and credit card fees.” Receiving heavy media coverage, the piece incited responses from outlets all over the country.
